Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Top-Rated Tummy Tuck Surgery In Charlotte

Charlotte Tummy Tuck Surgery

Abdominoplasty, more commonly called a tummy tuck, is a popular procedure at our Charlotte, NC, practice. A tummy tuck not only slims your waistline, it flattens the abdomen and removes extra skin, creating results you can’t get from diet and exercise alone.
Dr. Augenstein knows that the midsection is notoriously difficult to tone, especially after having children or losing a great deal of weight. He spends ample time with you at your consultation discussing your tummy tuck options and educating you about your procedure.

Are You a Candidate?

Tummy tuck surgery is an ideal treatment for anyone looking to sculpt, firm, and flatten his or her abdomen. It’s an excellent option for moms who want to restore their bodies after having children, and is frequently combined with breast augmentation as part of a mommy makeover.

How You’ll Benefit

A tummy tuck usually involves removing excess skin and fat and tightening the abdominal muscles. This results in a narrower waist and a firm, flat abdomen. In many cases, at least some stretch marks are eliminated when the excess skin is removed.

A Personalized Experience

Dr. Augenstein never performs the same procedure twice. Each person’s treatment is uniquely customized to their goals and body type. During your consultation, Dr. Augenstein will sit down with you to develop a personalized plan that addresses your concerns. To do this, he will talk to you at length about your goals for surgery and use TouchMD–an innovative consultation tool–to help you better understand your surgery and securely document procedure notes, illustrations, etc.
The traditional tummy tuck utilizes an incision that runs horizontally between the pelvic bones. Dr. Augenstein is careful to make this incision low enough to be concealed by underwear or swimsuit bottoms. There is a second incision around the navel, which is usually well-concealed in the contours of the belly button.
During a tummy tuck, Dr. Augenstein will repair any muscle separation with internal sutures. He then removes the excess skin and closes the incisions.
Depending on the plan you and Dr. Augenstein develop together, you may be a candidate for one of the following:
  • Mini Tummy Tucks

    • This procedure uses a shorter incision, and does not require the second incision around the belly button. It is best for individuals with a small amount of excess skin and fat below the navel.
  • Drainless Tummy Tucks

    • For certain individuals, Dr. Augenstein is able to forego surgical drains by using a special suturing technique to close the “open” space where fluid can accumulate.
  • Circumferential Tummy Tuck

    • This technique, which utilizes an incision that encircles the midsection, is ideal for people who have lost a significant amount of weight and have loose skin around their entire torso.
  • Reverse tummy tuck

    • For a select few individuals, Dr. Augenstein offers a reverse tummy tuck to improve abdominal tone in the upper abdomen.
  • Fleur De Lis Tummy Tuck

    • This approach is similar to a full tummy tuck except that it includes an additional vertical incision down the midsection when there is a large amount of excess skin both horizontally and vertically on the abdomen.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Your recovery time will depend on the type of tummy tuck you have, as well as your body’s ability to heal. You will not be able to walk fully upright for a few days, and you will be bruised and sore. Dr. Augenstein will prescribe pain medication to ensure you are comfortable. It is a good idea to have help around the house, especially if you have young children.
Most people take 1 or 2 weeks away from work, and are back to more strenuous activities like exercising in about 4 to 6 weeks. It can take several months for the swelling to go away entirely, and up to a year for scars to fade.

“Dr. Augenstein is a dual board-certified plastic surgeon whose professionalism, artistry, and skill have made him an in-demand tummy tuck specialist in Charlotte.”

Amazing experience.

Dr. Augenstein was awesome! He helped put my mind at ease in deciding to move forward with the rhinoplasty. 3 months out, and I'm so happy I made that decision, and happy Dr. Augenstein was the one performing the surgery.
