Breast Lifts

While many women are familiar with breast augmentation, there are other procedures to revitalize and give breasts a fresh, youthful appearance. A breast lift in Charlotte, also known as a mastopexy, can produce a tighter, firmer look for patients whose breasts have been impacted by childbirth, weight gain or loss, or simply gravity. While a mastopexy is not the same as a breast augmentation, some patients choose to combine the procedures.

What Can I Expect During a Breast Lift?

Every breast lift procedure begins with a consultation, providing the patient with the opportunity to discuss their desired outcome with Adam C. Augenstein, MD and agree on a treatment course that best fits the patient’s needs. During this time, Dr. Augenstein will want to know about the patient’s medical history, and the patient has the opportunity to ask any questions or request to see before and after photos. Dr. Augenstein will talk the patient through every phase of the breast lift procedure.
There are multiple types of breast lift procedures, each with differing incisions to achieve the desired results. A periareolar lift, for example, is ideal for patients who want to reduce the size of the areola without significantly changing the shape of the entire breast or need only small changes in nipple position. A vertical lift is a suitable option for patients who need more lift and shaping to the nipple and breast.
Some patients choose to get a breast lift and augmentation at the same time, which increases the amount of time required for the procedure. Adding an implant to the breast at the same time as a lift adds volume and shape, especially to the upper part of the breast. After the breast lift surgery, patients are discharged and allowed to return home in the company of a friend or family member.

Breast Lift Recovery

Most patients are able to resume their normal routine, including returning to work, within a week of surgery. Strenuous activities including intense exercise should be avoided for several weeks following a breast lift procedure in Charlotte. During the first few days, patients may be sore and experience some swelling, though any pain can be easily managed with medication.
It is essential that patients carefully adhere to all aftercare instructions provided by the surgeon. In the months following surgery, scars should continue to fade and as swelling and scars diminish, the full results of the procedure will become visible.

A Personalized Experience

We will walk you through every step of your procedure prior to surgery, which should last about an hour, depending on your surgical plan. You will be given general anesthetic to ensure your comfort and safety while your procedure is performed. You will be able to return home the same day, although we do monitor our patients immediately following surgery.
