Microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment option for Charlotte patients who want to address fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, and acne and other types of scarring. This procedure utilizes the skin’s ability to heal itself by producing collagen and elastin and is popular for how quickly it can be performed and its limited downtime.

Are You a Candidate?

Microneedling is ideal for women and men in good overall mental and physical health with realistic expectations about what the procedure can accomplish. This treatment is appropriate for all skin types and colors and can be applied to parts of the skin that are too sensitive for other types of treatment, such as the neck and hands.
Microneedling is not appropriate for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have had radiation treatment in the past year, used Accutane within the last year, and have open wounds or skin infections on the treatment area.
The best method of assessing whether you are a good candidate for microneedling is to schedule a skincare consultation with our licensed aesthetician.

What Can I Expect During a Microneedling Procedure?

Patients should arrive at a microneedling appointment without makeup. The aesthetician will clean your skin and apply a numbing cream to minimize discomfort during the treatment, then run a small handheld pen with small needles over the skin, penetrating to a depth of up to 2 millimeters. This prompts the skin to heal itself, producing collagen, which gives the skin a smooth, hydrated appearance. The entire process should last about an hour.
The number of treatment sessions required depends on the severity of the condition being addressed. Patients with acne scars may require four to six treatments, while more severe scars might require more. Many patients choose to schedule once-a-year appointments to maintain their results. During the skincare consultation, the aesthetician will provide a recommended treatment plan that will include the number of microneedling sessions the patient requires to achieve their goals.

Microneedling Recovery

The side effects of a microneedling session are minimal and typically last between one and three days. Patients can expect to experience redness and swelling, which may feel similar to a sunburn. The treatment is extremely safe when performed under the right conditions—namely, by a trained and licensed medical expert.
Following a microneedling procedure, we encourage patients to use sunblock and avoid direct sunlight. We will also provide aftercare instructions including when it’s safe to begin wearing makeup, which products and substances to avoid, and which products and substances can help assist with healing.
Improvements are typically noticeable within four to six weeks, although the full impact takes several months to develop.

Amazing experience.

Dr. Augenstein was awesome! He helped put my mind at ease in deciding to move forward with the rhinoplasty. 3 months out, and I'm so happy I made that decision, and happy Dr. Augenstein was the one performing the surgery.
